Function in skin biology

Ceramides are a family of lipid molecules that make up a significant proportion of the stratum corneum's intercellular lipid matrix. Alongside cholesterol and free fatty acids, ceramides form the structural lipid bilayers that hold skin cells together and contribute to the barrier's ability to retain water and resist environmental stressors. Skin with reduced ceramide content is more frequently associated with dryness and a compromised-feeling barrier.

Why Ambernay uses it

Ambernay includes ceramides where the formula objective is to support barrier integrity and intercellular cohesion — they are a structural contributor rather than a single-effect active. Synthetic, biomimetic ceramides (matching the ratios found in human skin) are used to support compatibility and consistency between formula batches.

Where concentration matters

Cosmetic research has evaluated ceramide-containing formulas at total ceramide concentrations typically between 0.1% and 2%, often combined with cholesterol and fatty acids in ratios that approximate the skin's natural lipid composition. The ratio between lipid types is considered as important as the total concentration.

We do not claim that ceramides repair barrier damage, treat eczema, dermatitis or any other skin condition. Ceramides in a cosmetic formula are evaluated as structural lipid contributors — not as a pharmaceutical intervention.
